Dropbox has finally released an official app for Microsoft’s Windows platform. This news comes soon after Microsoft’s Windows 10 event which took place yesterday.
In a blog post, the company’s Product Manager Matthew Jaffe announced the availability of Dropbox for Windows mobiles. The app will work on Windows phones (8.0 or higher) and Windows devices running on Windows RT or Windows 8.1.
The new app will allow users to backup their files to Dropbox and access them from any compatible device. The app automatically backs up your photos to your account and users can mark files as favorites to access them even when they don’t have internet. The app also provides access to personal as well as professional accounts. Users will receive additional 2GB of cloud storage once they log in from their Microsoft devices.
The app has entered the Windows app store quite late. Dropbox has been available for iOS and Android for quite some time now.
Earlier reports suggest that Microsoft and Dropbox had teamed up for Office integration. Microsoft said the functionality would be included in the next updates to the Office mobile apps and online accessibility would be available in the first half of 2015. Microsoft already has a file-sharing service called OneDrive, but partnering with Dropbox will allow it to tap more than 200 million users of the Silicon Valley startup‘s services.
