10 Ways To Cut Down On Mobile Data Usage

Smartphones are a blessing in disguise; where we have everything we need, at the tip of our fingers yet pay a heavy price for it later, in terms of data payment. As the country’s internet network gets better there is the tendency to use a lot of data on the go.
But what people don’t realize is that they pay a hefty price for these data plans. So, how do you reduce the amount of data you use so that your pocket is not emptied? Here are a few guidelines of how it can be done with input from Gizbot.
Connect Wi-fi: This is a long shot since India is still a long way from creating free wi-fi zones.  There are places that give free wi-fi connectivity in certain cafes and restaurants, and also in cities like Delhi and Chennai, there are places where wi-fi connectivity is available.  This will let you save on the cellular data.

Video chatting: Video chatting is fun but the amount of cellular data it uses will literally drain your data plan, so stop on video chatting. Do that at home when you are connected to wi-fi. Even if you have 3G network and a huge plan, constant video chatting will drain the cellular data on your phone in no time. This is something people in relationships will find it hard to do but there are other ways to express that love for each other. Try saving cellular data by meeting up and talking to each other face to face.
Save music, don’t stream: To all the music lovers out there, you will want to stream music on the go using your cellular network but don’t. If you know the songs you like and want to listen to, get them downloaded and saved on your phone. On the go streaming may look cool and fun but you will drain your cellular data before you know it.
YouTube videos: For people, who cannot stay away from making videos of themselves and uploading them on YouTube, try uploading them when you are connected to wi-fi and not through your phones cellular data. Do not forget this because in case you have made an awesome video and want to upload it but then find that your cellular data is over, then it will just crush you. So, instead upload your videos on to YouTube when you are connected to wi-fi.
Data App: As technology progresses, phones are given the option of preserving the amount of data you use. So, manage the amount of data you want to use instead of using it blindly. This will keep the data usage in check. Thus, makes your work easier.
Data Monitor: This is a bit different from Data App, in Data Monitor; it allows you to keep a track of the amount of data each app uses. In Android OS, there is an in built monitor in settings called Data Usage. In Window phones there is an in built monitor called data sense. So, use these apps to help you determine the amount of data used by various apps on your phone.
Online Gaming: Hard core gamers just can’t keep away from gaming, so they exhaust their cellular data since they use it to play online games. It’s time tobe more aware gamers, try to reduce on the amount of game you play online using your cellular data. Play as much online games as you want when you are connect to wi-fi. When boredom kicks in we all tend to pull out our phone and start gaming but think before you do.
Run on 2G: When you are commuting, manually turn off your 3G/4G network because honestly you don’t need it as 2G is pretty much sufficient for that short period of time. This will help you preserve the cellular data on your phone and thus allowing you to avoid paying hefty prices over and over again.
Background data usage: One huge problem with using Smartphones is that they drain cellular data even when particular apps are not in use. This can be stopped by going to settings and then to background data and blocking the use of cellular data of particular apps when they are not in use. This will allow you to preserve your data and not have it stolen by the phone.
Google Maps: A huge blessing for people who are bad with directions or for tourists to cities and countries, Google maps are useful but they also drain your cellular data. So, how do you stop it from draining your data? Well, download offline maps. Offline maps works just as fine as online maps, but offline maps will let you save your cellular data usage.
