Finally breathing some sigh of relief, Vice
President of International for Xiaomi, Hugo Barra has confirmed that the Redmi
1s will resume sales in India beginning December 23. Barra took to Facebook to
make the announcement after a Delhi High Court lifted the ban earlier imposed
on Xiaomi devices in India. As per the new ruling, Xiaomi can resume sales in
the country subject to certain terms and conditions.

In addition, Barra has also revealed that the
4G variant of the recently launched Redmi Note phablet is all expected soon,
although he did not mention an exact date or time frame for the same.
Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi has been in
quite a soup lately after Ericsson accused the company of infringing upon as
many as eight of its patents that include AMR, EDGE and 3G technologies and
moved a Delhi High Court against the same. In response, the Delhi HC ordered
Xiaomi to stop selling its devices in India.
Xiaomi was quick to challenge the directive
and contended that it also sold devices running on Qualcomm chipsets. Since
Qualcomm is licensed for Ericsson's patented technology, Xiaomi devices based
on Qualcomm were not infringing upon Ericsson̢۪s claimed patents in any way.
Post the hearing, Xiaomi has now been allowed
to sell its devices that are based on Qualcomm chipsets, which include the
Redmi 1s as well as the 4G variant of the Redmi Note phablet. Sadly, the 3G
variant of the Redmi Note cannot be sold in India since it has a Meditek
processor beating under the hood.
